Chickpea – Holy Basil Immune-Boosting Dipping Sauce

Here is a fusion of Lebanese hummus and Italian pesto sauce. Replace the sweet basil leaves with holy basil leaves and you end up with a powerful protein-rich immune-boosting sauce. In the Indian Ayurvedic medicine system holy basil known as tulsi is used widely as a medicinal herb. Also referred to as the “Queen of Herbs” it is an adaptogen with great therapeutic benefits for almost all functions of the body. Scientific research shows it has immune-modulating properties. It is also consumed in the form of tea and herbal supplement.

4-6 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups of cooked chickpeas
  • ½ cup of cashews
  • ½ cup of chopped sweet basil or holy basil leaves
  • ½ cup of water leftover from cooking the chickpeas or just plain water
  • 1-2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 lemon freshly squeezed
  • 1 tsp sea salt or as per preference
  • ½ tsp freshly ground pepper

Directions:

  • Put all ingredients in a blender and blend into a creamy consistency
  • Use it as your wish, as a sauce, dip, sandwich spread, on salads or as your fantasy imagines
